Let's face it, people love to complain. But complaints aren't always a bad thing. Sometimes, complaints can help point out what's wrong with a particular product or service. In fact, a lot of InventHelp inventors come up with their ideas based on grievances they have about everyday problems. By taking a proactive approach, InventHelp complaint clients transform their gripes into new ideas.
Take, for example, InventHelp client Paul Trubody, who turned his complaint about vehicle hitches into the Towbar Safety Sock™. He designed this cushioned, protective cover for a vehicle tow hitch to prevent people from bumping into hitches and getting hurt. His invention also protects a hitch from corrosion and grease stains, but it was this InventHelp inventor's complaints about hitch injuries that really inspired the design.
"After I bruised my leg on the hitch of my vehicle, I decided to look for a way to make tow hitches safer," he said.
And certainly Trubody isn't alone. Carmen Davis, another InventHelp inventor, took her complaint about standard staple removers and used it to invent the Magnetic Staple Remover. The Magnetic Staple Remover incorporates an internal magnet to prevent removed staples from flying all over the place. Davis was inspired to invent her new product while cleaning office buildings, where she always complained about all the removed staples stuck in the rugs.
"I sat down one day and looked at a staple remover, and just thought to myself over and over: how can I make this better?" she recalls.
Another inventor looking for a way to make an existing product better was Nissan Shukrie. This InventHelp complaint client decided to use his problem with wet umbrellas as motivation to develop the UDS® – Umbrella Draining Solution. This invention prevents a recently used umbrella from scattering water droplets on a person or vehicle interior. The InventHelp inventor drew on a personal complaint about wet umbrellas for inspiration.
"I was looking for a way to avoid the mess in my car caused by a dripping umbrella when I came out of the rain," he said. "So I developed this invention to make storing or transporting a wet umbrella mess free."
Like Shukrie, many other inventors use their complaints about existing products or technology to fuel the search for new and better ways. The InventHelp clients mentioned are just a few examples of how complaints can motivate people to invent. And, as these inventors illustrate, complaining may not always be such a bad thing after all.
