Ben Franklin and InventHelp®
Starting in 2004, as a company-wide celebration of the inventive spirit, InventHelp® started celebrating the birthday of one of America's best-known inventors – Ben Franklin. Why do we celebrate Ben Franklin's birthday? You already know that Franklin experimented with electricity and that his signature is on the Declaration of Independence. But there is so much more to the guy than that! He invented the Franklin Stove, innovated home fire safety and was a widely published essayist.
At the beginning of 2004, InventHelp® launched the Ben Franklin Award program to recognize and celebrate our employees. Once a year, all InventHelp® employees are asked to vote for the team member they feel best represents our company.
Stories from Ben Franklin's Life
Franklin the Humorist
Benjamin Franklin was once accosted by a drunken man who had overheard him discussing the
Declaration of Independence. Slandering the document, the young fellow shouted at Franklin:
"Aw, them words don't mean nothing at all. Where's all the happiness the document
says it guarantees us?" Franklin sympathetically replied, "My friend, the Declaration
of Independence only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself!"
Franklin the Inventor
We're sure you're familiar with Franklin's experiments with electricity.
But did you know these experiments made him famous around the world?
A crowd of curiosity seekers once gathered outside Franklin's
Philadelphia home, hoping to catch a glimpse of the scientist's miraculous
discoveries. The shrewd Franklin decided to rid himself of the fence-hanging
gawkers by sending a jolting, but harmless, electrical charge through
the iron-wrought fence surrounding his house. The crowd quickly dispersed,
shaking their heads in disbelief!
