In case you’ve been ducking the relentless media coverage of tax season, April 15th is the last day you can file your 2007 taxes without penalty. In years past, you had two options for doing your taxes: cough up the fee to have a professional tax preparer complete your return or run the risk of doing them yourself. Here at InventHelp®, we get very few tax-related inventions, but nevertheless – there are inventions on the Web or in software that can make life easier around tax time!

Tax time can be positive because the great news is that most people will receive a tax refund. Depending on the complexity of your financial situation, you may be able to file your taxes online for free. If, for example, you earn all of your income by clocking in on someone else’s dime, you may be even able to fill out a 1040-EZ, a relatively uncomplicated IRS form. Or, if perhaps you have one day job but earn other income on the side through investments or property, you may still be able to file for free. Check out the IRS website, which has a link to several tax preparation websites.
If you’re self-employed or if your tax situation is otherwise complicated (perhaps you got married, had a child or relocated last year), you may have a need for specially designed tax preparation software. TurboTax is one of the most popular programs available, and it consistently receives good reviews for its ease of use. Available for purchase from major retailers, the software is produced in several versions that vary in complexity. Or, you can link to the website and begin your tax return directly from there.
Realistically, the earlier you start your taxes, the better. In a deadline panic, it’s more likely that you’ll make mistakes that can be costly should the IRS audit you. By planning ahead and starting at least a few days in advance, you can go back and review your entries for accuracy, and even add deductions that you may have forgotten the first time around. But, even if you’re one of the procrastinators burning the midnight oil on April 14th, with all the available tax preparation websites and software programs at least you don’t have it do it all on your own!
