"SHORT TAKES: Safety Tab Invented as Modification for Standard Aluminum Beverage Cans"
From Yankee Brew News, a publication for the brewing industry
PITTSBURGH – InventHelp® announced that one of its clients, an inventor from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada, has designed a device that would prevent insects from entering a beverage can between sips.
The
"Safety Tab" would function for containers holding such drinks
as beer or soda. The invention also would prevent debris such
as stems and twigs from falling into a can, and would protect
a full beverage can from being used as an ashtray. Also, the Safety
Tab would feature a design adaptable to most existing sizes and
styles of aluminum beverage cans.
The inventor realized the need for his device through personal experiences. He stated, "On different occasions, I've found a cigarette butt in my can of beer. Plus, once a bee flew into my can, and, when I took a drink, it stung me on the inside of my lip. I wanted to redesign the typical can to prevent both of these."
The original design was submitted to the Vancouver office of
InventHelp®. It is currently available for
licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers. For more information,
