What invention was first marketed as a compressed peppermint candy over 80 years ago in Vienna?
PEZ Candy was first marketed as a compressed peppermint candy in Vienna, Austria. Invented in 1927 by a confectioner named Eduard Haas III, the name "PEZ" was derived from the German word for peppermint - PfeffErminZ. In 1948, an employee of PEZ Candy designed the candy dispenser to look like a cigarette lighter and in 1955 popular cartoon heads were added to the design.
