Ah, summer. Time for
swimming, picnics, baseball games and all sorts of other fun in
the sun. Throughout the long winter months, millions of people
eagerly await the opportunity to partake in their favorite warm-weather
pastimes. Some things are so ingrained as a part of summer tradition
that it's hard to imagine the season without them. With that in mind,
InventHelp® presents the tales of four inventions – the Super Soaker®,
the bikini, the Frisbee® and the Popsicle™ – that have become
lasting summertime favorites.
At Kids' Day, You're Never Too Young to Be an Inventor
There are age restrictions on many things for children as they
grow up. But anyone at any age can be an innovator, and INPEX®,
America's Largest Invention Trade Show is celebrating the
creativity of young inventors. This year, INPEX® is hosting
a special day just for kid inventors on Saturday, June 11, 2005
from 12:00 till 4:00 p.m. at the Monroeville ExpoMart in Pittsburgh,
PA. Creative youngsters are invited to bring their own inventions
to display at Kids' Day, where they will have the opportunity
to win cash prizes.
Italo Marchino, an Italian immigrant,
produced the first ice cream cone in 1896 and was granted a patent
in December of 1903. But although Marchino is credited as
the ice cream cone's originator, an episode at the 1904 World's
Fair in St. Louis is responsible for popularizing the treat.
One very hot day, Charles Menches was selling ice cream in dishes,
but there was such a high demand that he ran out of saucers before
noon. The quick-thinking Menches turned to his friend Ernest
Hamwi for help. Hamwi was selling a Middle Eastern confection
called Zalabia, which consists of a wafer-like pastry sold with
syrup. Menches rolled the Zalabia and then scooped ice cream
on top, thus giving the public its first taste of the ice cream cone.
